Australian Sapphire Colours

COLOURS

Sapphire and Ruby are the gem forms of corundum.
Sapphire can occur naturally in a wide range of colours
Red or Pink corundum is called Ruby.

Whilst many people believe that sapphires are only blue, the gems shown below right indicate the wide range of colours available from Coolamon Mining

The most readily available colours are Blue, Green, Yellow, Lime and the Yellow/Blue combinations known locally as "Parti-Colour"

The Rare Natural colours include Orange, Peach, Purple, Golden Yellow and Colour Change.

It is a great pleasure to introduce gems that will be classed as Coolamon Blue. Among the many gems we see there are a select few which have that intangible something that makes them extraordinary. Often it is obvious that there is something special about a piece of sapphire even when it is in its rough form. These stones are selected when the rough is being graded and are sent to specialist gem cutters to reveal their true beauty.

Be assured that any gems graded as Coolamon Blue are gems of remarkable character, colour, and "Fire"
